Here we are at the beautiful Agba-Dam Lakeshore area of Ilorin GRA, Kwara State on a cool morning of Thursday July 24th, 2014 where St Mary International School is located sharing the same neighbourhood with Kwara State Government House, Ilorin, Waterview Estate, Kwara Hotel, 5 stars hotels and many other blue chip companies.

Our Mission today is to cover and report the 10th graduation, valedictory service and prize giving ceremony of the 2014 graduating set of St Mary School, Ilorin.

As at 8:17am, the Graduands and other pupils had arrived while parents and other guests started arriving at 10am.

The event proper started at exactly 11am with the introduction of special guests by the MCs: Mr Yemi Kuforiji, Ben Cash and Bayour Issah.

The Event proper started with an Opening prayer by Mr Daniel Giwa from CBN, Ilorin and the school band immediately rendered the National Anthem, the School Anthem and National Pledge.

The Mc Mr Yemi Kuforiji invited the Pre-Nursery class for their presentation followed by the Nursery One class and Nursery Two class respectively.

The first set of Awards were given to some parents and teachers of the school, they are:

1. Mr Ayo Ayepekun – Most Punctual Parent to meetings and other activities of the school
2. The Idrisu – Parent with the highest number of pupils in the school (5 pupils)
3. Prince Kazeem Olanipekun – Most Supporting Parent

4. Most Outstanding Teachers:
– Nursery & Montesorri – Joy Adeyeye
– Primary School – Augustina Raphael
– Creative Arts – Seun Oluwadimu
– Computer – Awolusi Victoria
– The School Headmaster Mr Gbenga Gbamis was also awarded.

Ayomide Adetola led the Primary One class to a mathematical facts presentation while the French class presentation came up immediately after with Jolade Efuniyi, Eniola Aremu, Gawaki Toki and Abubakar Rahman.

The Proprietress, Chief (Mrs) Anne Salubi gave her presentation telling us about the school since inception, goals, objectives and plans for the next academic session. She took us back days when the school was founded in September 1999 with 4 pupils made up of three (3) Babies, one (1) four year old pupil, one (1) Teacher and two (2) Nannies.

Anne Salubi is a 1977 Fine Arts Graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, is the present Lady Guide Commissioner in Kwara State, she was the 1984 District Manager, and 1985 acting Director for Power District. She is happily married with 7 children some of which are married and would be 40 years in marriage come March 2015.

After the proprietress welcome speech, the Mc Yemi Kuforiji joined by Ben Cash called out some of the old pupils of the school who are doing well in their current academics which includes Onagaumah Emoshioke a 16 year old 200 level Microbiology student of Landmark University, Omu-Aran Kwara State. She graduated from the school in 2007. Also Ayodokun David of Effective International College and Motolani Oloruntoba were some of the old students of the school doing well.

The school consultant Dr J.A. Adewunmi was also on ground to tell the guests about the progress of the school and how the school have been performing exceedingly well in their academics and external exams. He boasted that the school presented the best students in the last common entrance exam in Kwara State and overall best student, this which was greeted with a resounding applause by the audience.

Another highpoint of the event was when the primary three pupils came up for their senwele dance presentation led by Jacob Shammah, Agbolade Oyinkansola and Ayomikun Salami. Parents, invited Guests and attendees at the event danced out and also sprayed the pupils money in appreciation of their electrifying dance steps. The presentation was made possible by some crew cultural arts centre, ilorin who had trained the pupils in redenring the songs.

The event was filled with several activites and there was never a dull moment as we witnessed presentations from the Primary Two, Four and Six in Drama & Song, Nupe/Fulani Dance and Edo Dance respectively. Also the Primary Three pupils came back to tell us some weird facts about the human body whole the Primary Four pupils presented the unity dance with the primary six pupils capping it up with the Calabar Dance and Choreography.

The farewell speech were said by the Head Boy, Olanipekun Abdulquduz a 9 year old boy whose future ambition is to be a Medical Doctor and Head Girl, Idowu Boluwatife a 10 yearr old girl who aspires to be a Neurosurgeon.

Dr (Mrs) Oluwayemisi Adegboye a Medical Doctor gave words of advice to the graduating pupils.

The event then shifted to the last presentation of Awards and Prizes to some pupils who had performed very well in the school and in academics which was anchored by Mr Bayour Issah.

Some pupils who had performed very well in the Nursery Classes were awarded with different prizes upto the Primary Five pupils.

The School Proprietress Mrs Anne Salubi joined by Mallam Idrisu of CBN, Ilorin presented special recognition award to Mr Anthony Oluyemi Kuforii for his unrelentless support and effort to the school. She said Mr Kuforiji had been with the school since inception and had contributed immesenly to the progress of the school, though Mr Yomi Kuforiji is retiring from active service to the school but plead with him to come back and support the school when the Secondary section will be inaugurated.

Also to be awarded were in no particular some of the graduating pupils in person of Selim Aregbe, Olanipekun AbdulQuduz (Head Boy) and Idowu Boluwatife (Head Girl). They were presented with plaques for being outstanding students of reputable characters in the school.

The Moment we all have been waiting for came when some pupils of the graduating class (Primary Six) were presented with Certificate of Merit for performing very well in their academics. They are are in the following order.

First Position – Idowu Boluwatife
Second Position – Aregbe Selim
Third Position – Olanipekun Abdulquduz

Also some other pupils received merit awards in different categories and they are.
Olanipekun Abdulquduz – Overall Best Student, Best Student in English, Best Student in Science, Best Student in Mathematics. He received upto 9 awards that day in different categories.
Also were
Okunade Jesutomi (Best Student in French)
Aregbe Selim (Best in Mathematics, Best in Social Science).
Idowu Boluwatife (Best in Yoruba, Best in Handwriting).
Abdulrahman Abubakar (Most Progressive Student)
Akanni Oyinade and Jaji Yusuf were also awarded in different categories.

The event came to a close with the cutting of the cake by the graduating pupils flanked by Members of the school Board of Trustees, Special Guests, School Management, Parents and Invited Guests.

The event came to a close at exactly 4:30pm.
